It happens just as high temperatures are expected in the UK today and this weekend, just before forecasters warn of “thundery breakdowns” on Sunday.
The Office warns that strong thunderstorms and heavy rains could cause some disruptions, particularly to travel.
“Isolated property flooding is possible.”
“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could flood quickly, with strong winds, lightning strikes, hail, or floodwater causing damage to some buildings,” the statement continues.
The Office predicts that today’s high in the south of England will be 25C (77F), with chances of 26C (78.8F) on Saturday and perhaps 27C (80.6F) on Sunday.
Scotland and Northern Ireland should also have milder springtime temperatures; Glasgow is projected to reach 22C (71.6F) on Saturday.
