The 72-year-old was transferred on Monday from Bellevue Hospital in New York to Rikers Island Prison, where he is serving a term for rape.
According to Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s manager, the actor is “not in critical condition” following pericardiocentesis surgery, which removes fluid from the area surrounding the heart and lungs.
According to him, Weinstein “is in pain from the procedure and still dealing with several other serious health issues which need to be addressed” as he recovers in the intensive care unit.
According to Weinstein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, they asked that he be moved to Bellevue immediately by prison officials “because of his grievances with us about it.
The former film producer’s 2020 New York rape conviction was overturned in April, and he is scheduled to appear in court for a retrial hearing on September 12.
Due to his conviction for a second rape in Los Angeles in 2022—for which he received a 16-year prison sentence—Weinstein has stayed behind bars.Weinstein was admitted to the hospital in July following a positive COVID-19 test and pneumonia in both lungs.
