On Monday, a technical issue during a routine training trip caused an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet to crash close to the Uttar Pradesh city of Agra.
When the disaster happened, the plane, an upgraded MiG-29, had taken off from Udhampur, Punjab, and was traveling to Agra for a training exercise.
This is the second MiG-29 crash to occur in India in as many months. Another MiG-29 had crashed in the Barmer area of Rajasthan in September while on a routine patrol. Concerns over the safety of the aircraft, which have been a part of the IAF’s fleet for many years, have been raised by both accidents.
Rescue and recovery efforts have been started at the disaster scene, and authorities are presently looking into what caused the collision.
