The Biden administration announced a plan Tuesday that would allow millions more Americans with lower incomes and older citizens to get coverage for expensive anti-obesity medications.
According to a fact sheet released by the White House, around 4 million Medicaid patients and 3.4 million Medicare beneficiaries would have access to these drugs, which may cost up to $1,000 per month for those without insurance. The out-of-pocket expenses for certain Medicare enrollees may decrease by up to 95%.
The government stated, “This proposal would let Americans and their physicians decide the best course of action so they can live healthier lives without worrying about their ability to pay for these drugs out of pocket and ultimately reduce health care costs to our nation.”
