ISLAMABAD: Despite a boycott by two senior Supreme Court judges and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) approved the appointment of six new judges to the Supreme Court on Monday.
A JCP press release today states that a meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi was held to discuss nominations for high court judges in the SC. Six judges were nominated by a majority of the JCP’s membership.
Six judges were nominated, including the chief justices of all high courts except the Lahore High Court (LHC). Among these were Justices Salahuddin Panhwar, Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Shakeel Ahmad, Aamer Farooq, Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, and Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui.
