The Colombian government accuses armed groups of carrying out targeted attacks that have murdered 12 soldiers and 15 police officers in the last two weeks.
In retaliation for the recent deaths of some of their leaders, President Gustavo Petro accused the Gulf Clan criminal gang and other armed groups of attacking security forces personnel.
A reward has been offered by the government for information that results in the arrest of the attackers.
After negotiations with the Gulf Clan and a number of other armed groups broke down, Petro’s interior minister admitted on Friday that the approach was “not going well” despite his election pledge to deliver “total peace” to Colombia.
