Alberto Salagan entered Mexico for the first time since he was a newborn when he was deported from the United States in January.
He was born in the seaside town of Acapulco, but at the age of six months, his parents brought him to the United States.
He was captivated by the phony glamour of gang life while growing up in California.
Just as President Trump was taking office, Alberto was transported back to Mexico after being arrested for gang activity in San Diego. He was left destitute and alone in his native country.
“It was unexpected. “It still is,” he acknowledges. “I felt completely bewildered when I arrived in Mexico. No clothes, no food, no family—nothing.”
