For the first time, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has declared that press freedom around the world is in a “difficult situation” in its 2025 World Press Freedom Index.
According to the research, press freedom has reached its lowest point ever, and one of the main causes of the media’s global deterioration is economic constraints.
India is ranked 151st out of 170 countries in the index. An “undeclared media emergency” that has existed since Narendra Modi took office is cited in the report as the reason for this low rating.
With a ranking of 158th, Pakistan reflects growing worries about journalist safety and media independence.
