After a youngster died, Indian villagers allegedly accused a family of “practising witchcraft” by beating them to death and disposing of their bodies in a lake, according to authorities on Tuesday.
According to a statement from police in the northern state of Bihar, three people have been taken into custody and have admitted to the crime.
Among those killed were three women, one of them was 75 years old.
According to the statement, the primary accused accused “him and his family of practising witchcraft” and thought that one of the people slain was responsible for his son’s recent death.
“After beating the victims to death, the perpetrators loaded the bodies onto a tractor and dumped them in a pond,” police stated.
