Following the collapse of the Gambhira-Mujpur bridge in Gujarat, India, several vehicles crashed into the Mahisagar River, killing at least nine persons, according to an NDTV report on Wednesday.
According to reports, when the bridge that spans the districts of Anand and Vadodara abruptly collapsed, up to six vehicles—two trucks and a pickup van—fell into the river.
Prior to the collapse, witnesses claim to have heard cracking sounds, which caused the cars to fall into the river.
At least five individuals have been saved thus far as a result of the rescue effort being carried out by the fire department, police, Vadodara district officials, and local residents.
