KARACHI: An Australian passenger of Pakistani ancestry has lodged a complaint with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that customs personnel at the airport in Karachi had blocked access to Green Channel for foreign travelers.
In this regard, the Australian woman complained in writing to the PM that the closure of the Green Channel caused her to have to wait for hours at the customs station.
But according to a customs official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the international passenger’s luggage was examined for potential red flags.
Red Channel and Green Channel are the two channels available for customs processing, according to sources at the Karachi airport. Those traveling across the Red Channel with restricted or dutiable commodities pass through, but those without such things through the Green Channel.
She told the customs officials that the Green Channel facility was available at all airports as per order of the prime minister, the passenger said.
