After shooting a female Uber driver he thought was trying to extort him and was working with a fraudster, an 81-year-old Ohio man entered a not guilty plea, according to CNN, which cited information from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
A criminal complaint states that William Brock shot Loletha Hall multiple times outside his South Charleston residence last month. Hall passed away after being brought to a nearby hospital.
A press release issued by the sheriff’s office states that Brock informed authorities that, prior to the shooting, he had been the target of threatening phone calls from a man claiming his cousin was incarcerated.
When Brock declined to pay the caller’s demands for money for the relative’s bond, the caller threatened to harm both him and his fimaly.
