Following a police search, 19 caskets containing ashes were found at the Glasgow location of A Milne Independent Funeral Directors and given to the city council.
Eight ash containers have been sent to Argyll and Bute Council as part of the investigation. Police Scotland will not, however, confirm if they were among the 19 urns discovered in Glasgow or if they were collected separately from A Milne’s former West Dunbartonshire office in Dumbarton.
Operation Koine, the police investigation, was started in response to many complaints, one of which came from a distraught daughter who claimed the ashes she had received from the company months prior were not her mother’s remains but rather those of a stranger.
The ashes discovered in the Balornock Road location have been returned to the locations of the corresponding cremations, according to Glasgow City Council. This will allow the local government and three more crematoria to get in touch with the relevant families.
There are four unnamed caskets left.
“Four caskets are as yet unidentified, and we will require direction from the Scottish government inspector on burials, cremations, and funeral directors on the approach to take with them,” a Glasgow City Council spokeswoman stated.
