According to local media accounts, there were 196 workers housed in the premises, and there are hints that it might have been overcrowded.
At the time of the fire, a “large number” of individuals were inside the building, a senior police officer informed TV.
He remarked, “Dozens were rescued, but regrettably many died as a result of breathing in smoke from the fire.” He also mentioned how frequently overpopulation in these kinds of accommodations was warned against.
