Downing Street is scheduled to call a COBRA emergency response meeting on Monday, after “thugs” attempted to storm hotels sheltering asylum seekers on the sixth day of chaos.
The conference will include key ministers and police officials, who will debate how to respond in the coming days to guarantee that the violent situations do not occur again.
Over 140 people have been arrested so far across the country. In Middlesbrough alone, authorities detained 43 people.
More than 300 people previously marched in the town carrying a banner saying: Cars were set on fire and windows broken. Burning wheelie bins were also thrown at officers, leaving the road littered with smoking trash.
On Sunday night, Cleveland Police Assistant Chief Constable David Felton stated that “the level of violence we have seen today is staggering.”
