The Greater Manchester Police are still looking into the 24-year-old, who has denied any wrongdoing.
Three women reported domestic abuse against Antony in September of last year; he has not been charged or placed under custody in Brazil or the UK and refutes the claims.
“In light of the news published by the press this Tuesday (20 August 2024), the defense of player Antony Matheus dos Santos hereby confirms that the police investigation opened at the fifth Women’s Defense Precinct of Sao Paulo, of the Civil Registry,” read a statement from the player’s attorneys.
The defence has always maintained that Antony’s innocence will be established by the confidential investigations.
Although there was no indictment at the end of the police inquiry, officials told News Brazil that the matter has not been withdrawn because the prosecutor’s office is still analyzing it and may choose to conduct a second, independent investigation.
