Her pal inhales nitrous oxide gas (nos) from a blue balloon next to her in the Fiat 500.
The two women are still laughing and obviously high as two police officers leap out of their car. Their goal was to apprehend those who were allegedly consuming prohibited laughing gas through a targeted operation.
“We think you’ve been using nos,” says Spelthorne Borough Commander Matthew Walton, one of the cops, to the women. “I’ve just seen a couple of balloons.”
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, was classified as a Class C substance and prohibited from being used recreationally in November.
Two years in prison may result from a prosecution.
However, data gathered by News from 22 police forces across the UK shows that in the first three months of the ban, there were only 78 arrests for nitrous oxide possession and only 16 charges.
The local litter-picking group had provided information about nitrous oxide hotspots to the police, who carried out the operation in Staines last month.
