Just after 10.30 am, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), they were called to South Radford Street in response to complaints about someone’s wellbeing at the address.
“Officers attended, with assistance from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and a 40-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were both sadly found dead in the property,” the police said.
Specialized officers have notified and are supporting all known next of kin.
“A woman and young girl were both tragically found dead, and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning,” stated Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles of the GMP’s Salford division.
Even though we are not actively searching for anyone else in connection with this inquiry, I am aware that residents and people further afield in Greater Manchester will likely be concerned at the news of their deaths and the heavy police and emergency services presence at the address.
“I want to reassure them that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat in the community.”
“We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives,” a spokeswoman for Salford City Council added.
“Our teams will be supporting both local and GMP in their ongoing investigation, and we’re working closely with them on this.”
