At approximately 07:00 local time (22:00 BST) on Friday, emergency personnel were summoned to a residence in Townsville, a coastal city, where a 34-year-old lady was found to have “life-threatening” injuries.

Her right arm was severed below the elbow, but before she was sent to a nearby hospital, paramedics were able to collect the severed portion. Her health is steady yet serious.

The dog had “no other option,” according to the police, than to be shot dead there.

Senior Sgt. Scott Warrick stated during a press conference that when police came, they discovered the dog—possibly a pit bull—inside the house and the woman outside the house, profusely bleeding.

It was still trying to go outdoors and was acting quite aggressively and angrily.

While others placed a makeshift tourniquet on the woman’s arm and provided first aid until paramedics could arrive, other officers blocked the residence.

I’ve been a police officer for 37 years, but this is the first dog attack that has left me with such a terrible injury.

Sgt. Warrick told reporters, “The injuries to this lady are just absolutely awful and we wish her a speedy recovery.”
