After being sacked for stealing $7 from passengers’ fares, a 29-year-old Japanese bus driver forfeited his $84,000 retirement package.
The unnamed worker was fired by Kyoto City in 2022 after he was caught on tape stealing 1,000 yen ($7) from his bus’ security camera.
The driver filed a lawsuit against the city but lost after his retirement funds of almost 12 million yen ($84,000) were withheld.
The court decided that the punishment was too harsh, and the verdict was reversed in his favor.
