Mahmoud Abbas called Hamas “sons of dogs” in a harsh speech, calling for the group to disarm, free its remaining hostages, and give up control of Gaza to end the war with Israel.
The president of the Palestinian Authority told a gathering in the occupied West Bank that Israel should “release the hostages and be done with it” because Hamas had provided “excuses” for its attacks on Gaza.
The president made the most offensive statements about the group since the war started eighteen months ago.
Abbas’s “derogatory language” toward “a significant proportion… of his own people” was denounced by a Hamas official.
