With the help of border police, sugar headed for Afghanistan was exported through legitimate routes for the first time instead of being smuggled, according to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the finance minister stated, “… we need every single dollar coming in to balance our current account.”
The nation’s top economic manager described the development as positive and elaborated on the efficacy and implementation of the stringent production monitoring system.
“The country would have 5.7 million tonnes of sugar during this sugar season in addition to the stock available from the previous one,” Aurangzeb stated.
With improved management, he was confident that this would be enough to meet the demands of the nation.
