According to reports, Google is developing a new Android operating system (OS) for Pixel that will revive a key iPhone feature.
To make Pixel smartphones more functional, the Big Tech firm is reportedly aiming to bring back lock screen widgets for its Android 15 OS, according to Android Police.
The company is reportedly working on integrating RemoteViews API into At a Glance’s Smartspace API so that it can display third-party widgets, according to a report by Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman.
But there are problems, as Android Police claims, since the company can’t fit full-size widgets on the screen and can only display the pertinent data from the third-party widget at the moment.
Furthermore, At a Glance’s lock screen functionality is exclusive to Pixel devices; if the tech behemoth wants to extend support for third-party widgets to Android phones, it will need to collaborate with other manufacturers to increase the widget’s accessibility on their devices.
On non-Pixel phones, users can only currently add a restricted functionality At a Glance widget on the home screen.
