Despite the fact that the rape claim was reported to police the day after it occurred, the case is not scheduled for trial until next May, eight years after the alleged assault.
During that time, police delays and blunders, prosecutorial missteps, and court backlogs all led to the woman’s mental breakdown.
“It’s shambolic, embarrassing, disgraceful, and debilitating,” says the lady, who is legally allowed to remain anonymous. “I shouldn’t have felt abandoned and hopeless.”
After she reported it, the man was arrested and questioned before being released for further investigation. Samantha claims West Mercia Police originally kept her updated on progress, but communication stalled after about six months, and her attempts to contact them went unanswered.
