On Defence Day, there was a ceremony in Lahore to honor Major Sarmas Rauf Shaheed, a Christian soldier who received the Tamgha-e-Basalat. The martyr’s family, Lahore Bishop Kamran Nadeem, and Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora were present at the event.
To honor the nation’s martyrs, officials from many faiths came together, exemplifying religious unity. Participants reiterated their dedication to unity and national defense. Minister Arora underlined that a strong country needs a secure Pakistan.
Students played patriotic songs and the national anthem. Major Rauf’s military service, which commenced on September 11, 1987, was emphasized throughout the ceremony. Alongside serving with the Bajaur Scouts, he was Wing Commander of the 44 Frontier Force Regiment.
On September 13, 2007, Major Rauf was killed while conducting a search.
