Due to recent shortcomings at the Edinburgh branch, Rape Crisis Scotland (RCS), the national organization that establishes service standards for member centers, has become engaged in controversy.
Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC) was found guilty by a recent independent evaluation of neglecting to provide women-only areas for 16 months.
It was discovered that Mridul Wadhwa, the trans woman who served as the local chief executive, had not behaved professionally or recognized the boundaries of her power.
Following the designation of her leadership as “not fit for purpose” by certain politicians, Ms. Wadhwa resigned.
An employment tribunal’s conclusion that Roz Adams, a former employee of the ERCC, had been constructively terminated due to her “gender critical beliefs” set off the probe.
The tribunal heard that a “completely spurious and mishandled” disciplinary procedure resulted from Ms. Wadhwa’s apparent belief that Ms. Adams was transphobic.
However, more general concerns have been raised about the national taxpayer-funded RCS since it was revealed that last year, bosses in Edinburgh realized that national guidelines were not being followed.
