KARACHI: As it touched down in Peshawar, an international airline’s landing gear caught fire, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) reported on Thursday.
After the event was reported by airport authorities, emergency personnel quickly arrived to save hundreds of lives aboard the airplane.
An foreign flight encountered smoke upon arriving at Peshawar Airport earlier today, and while it maneuvered in a loop close to the runway, there was a fire in the left landing gear, the CAA stated in a statement.
The pilot and the fire and rescue services were instantly informed of the occurrence by the air traffic controller. As a result, the fire was quickly put out and a serious accident was averted.
Over 200 people were on board the airplane, and smoke could be seen rising from underneath it in a video captured at the scene.
The statement also stated that, as seen in another video from the incident, all 276 passengers and 21 staff members were successfully evacuated from the aircraft utilizing the inflatable slide.
It said that the flight had left Riyadh for Peshawar.
Sources claim that the event has been reported to the Aircraft Accident inquiry Board, and a team will shortly start their inquiry.
