La Bougie du Sapeur, France’s peculiar satirical weekly and the world’s only quadrennial publication, has returned to newsstands with its 12th edition, according to the BBC.
Since its inception in 1980, this one-of-a-kind 20-page tabloid has been published every four years.
La Bougie du Sapeur, priced at €4.90 (£4.20), is unique in its release pattern and has a print run of 200,000 copies. It was created by a group of friends looking for entertainment.
Despite its infrequent publishing, the journal successfully covers its expenditures, with a devoted readership eagerly anticipating each leap year edition.
Editor Jean d’Indy, who leads the French equivalent of the Jockey Club as his principal responsibility, emphasizes the friendliness and fun among the small group of friends responsible.
