Which?, a website that studies consumer preferences, put one sample from each of five well-known brands that suggested they were made of bamboo to the test.
Because the grass grows so quickly and produces fewer greenhouse gasses during production than ordinary paper created from virgin trees, bamboo is advertised as being more environmentally friendly than traditional paper.
Which? discovered that the percentage of bamboo-like grass fibers in samples from Bumboo, Naked Sprout, and Bazoo was barely 2.7%, 4%, and 26.1%, respectively.
Bazoo is a company that manufactures “tree-free, 100% bamboo toilet paper.” The company states that its bamboo comes from well-managed forests and has been certified and tested by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Though it does not explicitly say so, Naked Sprout does not also make it seem like it is not made entirely of bamboo.
Which? claimed that although supply chains are “complex,” it is “the responsibility of brands” to audit them?
