The jet crashed in a gated community about 80 kilometers from its destination while it was flying from Cascavel to Sao Paulo. The black box has been turned over to the accident’s investigative authorities, but TV , a local station, said that while its contents do not instantly explain the cause of the crash, no one on the ground was wounded.
The black box tape, which is supposed to contain about two hours of audio, contains a transcript that the station claims to have obtained.
According to TV, it shows the co-pilot asking the pilot what’s going on and stating that the aircraft requires “more power.”
Minutes before the plane touched down, the two had observed a sharp drop in altitude, according to the station’s main news program, Jornal Nacional. It claimed to have recorded screams in the moments leading up to the collision.
The plane’s transponder reported a vertical speed of between 8,000 and 24,000 feet per minute in its last 60 seconds of flight, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24.
