All of the airline’s sponsorship deals, according to Antonoaldo Neves of News’ Business Live, were reached “at the market level” and following “many negotiations.”
It coincides with Manchester City’s attempt this week to assert its victory in a legal battle with the Premier League on the validity of regulations controlling the amount of money the team can get from sponsors connected to its Abu Dhabi owners.
The case revolved around City’s 2023 decision to extend its jersey and stadium naming rights in a more profitable manner.
The Abu Dhabi government eventually owns Etihad through the wealth fund ADQ.
“Etihad doesn’t do any transactions with any partner that are not on the market basis,” Mr. Neves stated to News.
“Etihad has outstanding governance. Our stockholders have given us a very clear directive: provide exceptional customer service while also operating a financially stable airline.”
“Yes, it is market-based,” the CEO of Etihad continued. “If we don’t engage in transactions at the market level, the returns don’t come.”
