According to the latest census data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), 37% of the population communicates in Punjabi, making it the most widely spoken language in the nation, The News said on Sunday.
Pashto is the second most spoken language, followed by Sindhi in third place. Although Urdu is spoken by about 9% of the population, Sindh has the highest concentration of Urdu speakers, followed by the federal capital, Islamabad.
Nationally, 9.25% of people speak Urdu, up from 7.08% in 2017, according to Census 2023 findings.
Sindh has the largest percentage of Urdu speakers, followed by Islamabad, where 15.72% of people speak Urdu as their first tongue.
