Attorney and businesswoman Jillian Segal will advise the government by consulting with leaders of the community and specialists on prejudice, according to a statement made by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
It is in line with the policies of nations like the US, Canada, Greece, and the UK, all of which have had such policies for many years.
Mr. Albanese also mentioned that a special envoy would be created shortly to confront Islamophobia.
In Australia, the continuous Middle East crisis has turned into a contentious political issue. The Muslim and Jewish populations have both protested against it, and antisemitism and Islamophobia have increased dramatically as a result.
After an enormous onslaught on southern Israel on October 7 that resulted in over 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages, the Israeli military began a battle to remove the Hamas organization that controls Gaza.
According to the health ministry of Hamas, over 38,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza as a result of Israel’s offensive.
“Many Australians are struggling as a result of this conflict, which worries them greatly. Australians need to pull together in these trying times, not apart,” Mr. Albanese stated on Tuesday.
