The deputy commissioner of Swat has issued a warning, advising the postponing of any public events in order to protect public safety, in response to growing worries regarding potential terrorist threats.
The warning follows the Swat Qaumi Jirga’s scheduled peace march following Jummah prayers. The jirga has declared that the march will take place and that no one will be permitted to incite fake terrorism in the area.
The peace march is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Nishat Chowk in Mingora. The local police have taken special security precautions to ensure the safety of those taking part.
The business community, attorneys, civil society activists, and leaders of all the major political parties have confirmed their participation in the peace march by endorsing it.
