With 44 points left, McLaren led Ferrari by 21 points, and they finished Friday’s practice with a one-two, Oscar Piastri trailing Lando Norris. Due to a penalty, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari will start the race on Sunday no higher than eleventh.
Due to Ferrari needing to install a new battery on his vehicle, Leclerc received a 10-place grid deduction, exceeding his season-long allotment of two.
In third place, Norris surprised everyone by leading Piastri by 0.234 seconds ahead of Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas.
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari finished fourth, 0.582 seconds behind the leader, ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, Leclerc, and Valtteri Bottas’ Sauber.
