Amazon, an online retailer, has banned the sale of automobile license plates on its platform after a London news investigation revealed that they were being supplied unlawfully.
Seven businesses were found to be selling plates on the site without verifying the legal entitlement of the consumers or validating their documentation, according to the news.
Providing number plates without physically seeing documentation like a driver’s license or V5 document is against the law in the UK.
Amazon announced that all seven items from the businesses the news looked into had been taken off the market and that all number plate sales—aside from novelty plates—would stop.
According to the online store, taking down the number plates would not happen right away.
