The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) zoo’s manager, Olabode Olawuyi, was ambushed as he was feeding the lions, according to the OAU.
As per the university’s statement, “the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities” and his colleagues were powerless to save him.
Since then, the lion has been killed.
“Taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about nine years ago” was the zookeeper’s description, since she was a veterinary technician.
“But, tragically, the male lion killed the man who had been feeding them,” according to the OAU.
Nigerians have been posting graphic photos of the event at the southwest state of Osun State’s federally controlled university on social media.
It’s reported that the campus community went into sorrow after learning about the tragedy.
To offer consolation, the institution dispatched a team to the deceased’s family.
Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the vice-chancellor of the institution, expressed his sadness at the occurrence and directed a comprehensive inquiry “into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.”
According to Abbas Akinremi, the leader of the university students’ union, the attack was the result of “human error” because the zookeeper had neglected to close the entrance after feeding. This was reported by Nigeria’s Vanguard newspaper.
