A man appears to have said something to a small group of people passing by in Birmingham on Monday night, according to footage posted on social media. The man then appears to be being beaten by counterprotesters.
Police have stated that an assault on a man in his fifties outside the Clumsy Swan is being investigated as violent disorder and that his injuries are not believed to be significant.
Officers are also looking into damage done to the pub itself, as some attempted to kick in the door and break the windows.
Linda Ward, the pub’s assistant manager, told News that she wants to suspend the customer for agitating the group and encouraging violence, and that Muslims have since expressed sympathy and offered to pay for damages.
The incident was “really scary” and occurred while regulars were in the pub with their families, she stated, when they barred the doors with tables and chairs.
