KABUL: Police in Afghanistan, where the Taliban government is attempting to provide a secure image to attract investment from Beijing, reported Wednesday that a Chinese mine worker had been murdered in an attack.
According to regional police spokesperson Mohammad Akbar Haqqani, the Chinese national was killed by “unknown armed men” on Tuesday night while traveling in the northern Takhar province, which borders Tajikistan, AFP said.
He claimed that the individual was traveling “for an unknown reason” and without telling the country’s security guards, who usually go with Chinese visitors.
Haqqani added that the man’s companion, a translator, was unharmed.
