Attorney Randolph Rice, of Maryland, stated both defense and prosecution teams occasionally adjust their strategies dependent on the gender makeup of the jury.
To appeal to emotions, Rice said Baldwin’s attorneys would highlight his intense sadness following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western “Rust” in 2021.
“Maybe the defense is trying to latch onto the emotional portion of this,” Rice stated. “That he was so consumed with grief and that he couldn’t commit any crime because of his reaction at the scene.”
Pictures of an obviously upset Baldwin sobbing while on a phone call following the unintentional gunshot were widely shared on the internet.
On Wednesday, the jury—which consists of four alternates—heard four witnesses’ testimonies and opening statements.
Lawyers also point out that Baldwin’s rough demeanor and the fact that the victim in this case was a mother may irritate female jurors.
