Australian authorities condemned the latest antisemitic incident, vowing to “hunt down” those responsible for the defacement of four vehicles and the former residence of a Jewish community leader in Sydney early Friday. Two of the cars were set on fire.
Operation Avalite, a special unit established in early December to combat rising antisemitism, is looking into over 100 attacks, including the one in Dover Heights, one of the upscale eastern suburbs of the Australian metropolis.
It was directed at the former home of Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), who has called on the government to take more action to stop attacks on Jews that have increased since Israel’s war against Hamas began in Gaza.
