In Loma Linda, an hour east of Los Angeles, I was invited to breakfast by 76-year-old Dutchwoman Marijke and her husband Tom on a bright morning.
Breakfast was as pure as Loma Linda’s mission: oatmeal, chai seeds, fruit, and no processed sugary cereal or coffee.
One of the so-called “Blue Zones” in the globe, where people live longer than average lives, is Loma Linda. In this instance, those who are living longer are members of the city’s Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
They typically abstain from alcohol and caffeine, follow a vegetarian or even vegan diet, and believe that taking care of their bodies to the best of their abilities is required by their religion.
