Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted arriving at Buckingham Palace just hours after it was announced that they would not be attending King Charles’ pre-Christmas meal.
Prince Andrew, the king’s younger brother, had previously canceled the lunch due to days of media attention on his purported connections to a Chinese spy.
News reports that King Charles and Sir Clive Alderton, his private secretary, arrived together.
In the meantime, Prince William and Kate Middleton are spending the holidays in Norfolk with their three children.
According to local media, Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife, will also not be at Buckingham Palace today.
The Duke of York is rumored to have already decided not to spend the holiday season at Sandringham with the senior royal family.
