KARACHI: Five sportsmen are still being investigated by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), while eight athletes have been banned after testing positive for prohibited substances. The action comes after last year’s anti-doping test results.
According to a PSB spokeswoman, 13 athletes out of 140 who took anti-doping tests in 2024 had positive findings.
Eliminating the use of performance-enhancing substances and promoting transparency in sports are the goals of the crackdown.
The eight athletes who have been banned are from a variety of sports, including bodybuilding, cycling, athletics, and weightlifting.
Muhammad Yousaf and Jamil Akhtar were each given three-year weightlifting bans, while Furqan Ahmed was given a two-year ban. Ghulam Hussain Shahid received a four-month suspension.
