Minister for Sindh Local Government Saeed Ghani has blamed citizen actions amid heavy rains for the recent damage to Karachi’s roads.
Ghani claims that people are taking off the covers from the main sewer lines, which causes flooding and eventually damages the roadways.
At a press conference, Ghani said that sewage water spilling onto the streets due to sewerage line covers removed is a contributing factor to the deterioration of road surfaces. He stressed that the public’s mishandling of the sewer system has made the problem worse.
Discussions concerning who is responsible for preserving the condition of roads and efficiently managing sewage systems have been triggered by the minister’s remarks.
