ISLAMABAD Two days prior to the much anticipated public gathering in the federal capital on September 8th, organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Senate on Thursday passed the “Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024” by a majority vote, despite protests from opposition benches.
Party officials and members have been criticizing the opposition party’s top leadership for their inability to organize the public meeting in Islamabad.
In response to the local government rescinding the no-objection certificate (NOC) and sealing roads leading to the federal capital, the erstwhile ruling party quickly called off its August 22 “Islamabad Jalsa” and rescheduled it for September 8. The reason given was security concerns.
