Six Chinese investors filed a petition in the Sindh High Court on Friday, requesting protection from alleged harassment and extortion by Karachi police personnel amid the city’s deteriorating law and order situation.
While expressing dissatisfaction with the “culture of bribery” in the local police, the Chinese investors stated in their appeal that they would have little choice but to either return to their home country or depart for Lahore.
From the airport to our homes, police [officers] seek money. The petition stated, “In the name of [arranging] bulletproof vehicles, we are forced to wait for hours at the airport.”
The Chinese businessmen said that police officers drove them to their homes after accepting bribes.
