He criticizes the GLO (Group Litigation Order) program for being a “gravy train” for government lawyers in a newsletter that News was able to view.
He states that it’s “seemingly to ensure maximum income for the lawyers and minimal settlement for the victims” .
He goes on: “I have come to the conclusion that the department is run by government-employed flimflam artists, whose only role is to draw out the GLO Scheme, and probably the other schemes, and spin the narrative then bury it in bureaucracy.”
One of four compensation plans designed to give sub-postmasters and others impacted by the Post Office scandal financial relief is the GLO Plan.
It was established following Sir Alan’s historic victory at the High Court, where he led a group of 555 sub-postmasters.
Because of the flawed Horizon accounting system, hundreds of people were falsely accused of stealing from their branches between 1999 and 2015.
In January, the government declared that people who qualified for the GLO program would get upfront compensation of at least £75,000.
Sir Alan also said that although “the bulk” of claims were for more than £75,000, the offer had been successful for those with smaller claims, according to a newsletter provided to News by a sub-postmaster.
“It worries me to learn that a small percentage of elderly individuals have accepted settlements that are much below the value of their claims.
