ISLAMABAD In a recent development, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar stated that the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court now has the right to issue suo motu notices, a power previously held by the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Justice Mazhar said to a lawyer during a Friday hearing on an anti-terrorism case: “Mr. advocate, the [26th Constitutional] Amendment has just changed the process. Suo motu notice is still an option available to the Supreme Court. Suo motu matters will now be heard by a constitutional bench, which is the only change.
