ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan was physically remanded to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for two days on Tuesday by a district and sessions court in Islamabad. This was in connection with an ongoing legal matter involving Hasan’s suspected role in the dissemination of anti-state propaganda.
The FIA prosecutor brought the PTI officer before the court and asked that the suspect be placed under physical remand so that devices that are purportedly used for anti-state propaganda can be recovered.
Hasan was arrested by Islamabad Police from the Central Secretariat of the party one day prior for leading a digital media unit and its purported role in disseminating propaganda against Pakistan.
In response to the arrest, the police claimed that the “PTI digital media center had turned into a hub of global disinformation, from which propaganda against Pakistan is distributed worldwide.”The ICT later clarified that they had only arrested Hasan during the operation at PTI’s Central Secretariat, despite initial reports claiming that party Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan had also been taken into custody.
The erstwhile ruling party responded angrily to the police raid, with Chairman Gohar denouncing Hasan’s detention.
